Food & Waste
Northfield Ecocentre is dedicated to helping communities strengthen their food security, reduce food poverty, eat more healthily and reduce the food they waste and the plastic packaging that gets into the ecosystem. We work with local community groups to set up growing spaces and we offer volunteering opportunities and courses to learn and share skills. However, this is only part of the solution. We are working with our local partners in the South of the city to create a Food Alliance so we can advocate and facilitate more change and action to tackle the food waste, plastic waste and food poverty issues.

Avoiding Food Waste & Plastic Waste
Once you’ve reduced what plastic packaging you buy in the first place the next thing to think about is how you can re-use it. In our Community Gardens we re-use milk cartons and plastic bottles to grow seedlings and salad in.
Birmingham has it’s first zero-waste supermarket opening in spring 2018. It’s a perfect way to tackle plastic waste, change your behaviour and send a message to other businesses. Click the logo to find out more.
